Apple’s WWDC 2024 event is rumored to take place on June 10, and the buzz around potential announcements is building. Here’s an overview of what might offer, and how these new features could benefit you.

Customizable Home Screen

iOS 18 will allow you to freely place app icons and widgets on your home screen for the first time. You can create different rows, styles, and patterns of app icons, breaking away from the default positioning. Imagine arranging your icons at the bottom or even in a circular pattern—it’s all up to you!

Icon Theming

You’ll be able to change the appearance of your icons. Rumors suggest that you can customize the color scheme of your icons. For instance, if you want all your finance apps to be green or all your apps to have a blue aesthetic, iOS 18 will make it possible.

Dark Mode Aesthetics

An all-dark mode aesthetic with black icons could look incredible. If you’ve been waiting for better theming options, this might be your moment!

Groundbreaking AI (Apple Intelligence)

Apple is reportedly working on new AI features inspired by tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot. These features will enhance various aspects of iOS, making interactions smarter and more intuitive.

Apple Maps Upgrades

Expect improvements to Apple Maps, making navigation even better and more accurate.

Control Center Redesign

The Control Center will receive visual updates, including a new version of the music widget. Easier access to controlling HomeKit accessories is also in the works, providing more convenience.

iPadOS 18

Calculator App: Finally, Apple is introducing a first-party Calculator app for iPadOS 18. This will be a welcome addition for users who rely on their iPads for calculations.

AI Magic: Apple’s focus on AI extends to iPadOS, bringing privacy-minded AI tools and enhancements across various apps.

Eye Tracking: Native eye-tracking capabilities will make interactions more intuitive.

Other Changes: Although specific details remain a mystery, Apple might surprise us with additional features for iPadOS 18.

watchOS 11

Siri Upgrade: The game-changing feature here is that watchOS 11 will bring the new version of Siri directly to your wrist. Imagine having powerful voice commands without needing additional devices.

Competition: With other AI voice command gadgets emerging, Apple’s Siri integration on the watch could outshine them all.

macOS 15

AI Enhancements: Like iOS 18, macOS 15 will receive significant AI features. Apple plans to integrate AI improvements across various built-in apps, including Music, Photos, Notes, Messages, and Mail. Expect a more conversational Siri with proactive intelligence.

Redesigned Settings App: The Mac will get a revamped Settings app, similar to the iPhone. This redesign aims to make settings more relevant and user-friendly.

Improved Calculator App: macOS 15 will introduce a new version of the Apple Calculator app, addressing limitations in the current basic version.

tvOS 18

While there hasn’t been much talk about major changes, Apple may add minor enhancements to tvOS, improving the overall user experience.

Vision OS 2 (for Apple’s Vision Pro Headset)

Virtual Environments: Some virtual environments on the Apple Vision Pro headset are still pending, but they’re expected to arrive soon.

App Optimization: Vision OS launched with apps optimized for its design language, but some Apple apps remain unchanged. Vision OS 2 aims to address this.

Live Speech Option: Vision OS 2 introduces a live speech feature—an accessibility tool that displays real-time text alongside spoken words.

Mindfulness App Update: The Apple mindfulness app will monitor breathing using the headset’s cameras, enhancing the user’s meditation and relaxation experience.

Release Date

iOS 18 will be announced at WWDC 2024 on June 10. The first beta will follow the keynote, with a public beta likely in July and a general release on September 1.

These features are based on rumors, but it’s exciting to see what Apple has for us!
